I was able to install printer drivers for Canon without so much difficulty. So start by removing the printer from Print & Scan and then opening Finder and navigating to HD > Library > Printers > Canon and trashing the UFR2 folder, and the Control-click on the package and choose Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. The drivers from the apple site didn't help either. This hint worked perfectly, my Canon showed up via Print & Fax > IP > More Printers > Canon IJ Network.
