Hosts file tweaking should never be necessary in a well functioning network. I guess it's to support setting 0.0.0.0:8787 as addr and resolve to actual IP address, but in fact, curl -vLx http://0.0.0.0:8787 www.twitter.com does work on Mac and resloves to 127.0.0.1. This may well be an Anaconda bug but no update can fix an Anaconda bug (as I understand it).
